What do you want to do with your life? I’ve kept my family’s household in order for over 20 years. I’m not only good at it, I really enjoy it! So it should be no surprise that for about the same amount of time, I thought about leaving the rat race and becoming a Personal Organizer to help others reach their organized potential.

For years, starting my own business seemed daunting. So I channeled my drive to organize into my career as a Program Manager at Avid/Digidesign Pro Tools and Sony PlayStation for over 15 years and as a stay-at-home Dad for about 5 years. The knowledge and expertise I’ve built up in the business, parenting, and home ownership worlds have culminated perfectly into the opening of Weir Organized!

In the corporate world, at the heart of the Program Manager’s purpose is delivering a good or service by balancing scope, time, money, and quality. Understanding, planning, and completing the optimal balance of these elements to the benefactor’s desires are paramount. I honed these skills while being promoted 5 times within 10 years in the Silicon Valley, ultimately becoming the Director of Program Management for all Avid Audio products without an Engineering degree (I have a BA in Economics from UCSD, cum laude), all before the age of 32.

With all the demands of a busy professional, how did I accomplish this? By narrowly focusing on that which is most important. The 80/20 principle is a big part of my ideology – roughly 80% of results come from 20% of your efforts. Some examples of this that have been documented  are that 20% of a company’s customers are responsible for 80% of sales, 80% of customers use only 20% of software features, 80% of wealth is owned by 20% of people, and recall the adage that 80% of success is just showing up. I can help you focus on the 20% that matters the most so you can accomplish so much more.

This principle is also a must for the stay-at-home parent in order to properly manage time and raise responsible, aspiring adults. Over the past few years, I worked part time at Sony PlayStation (only when the kids were in school!) to focus on my priorities: my family – devoted to my wife of over 16 years, raising our now 3rd & 7th grade kids, managing our money, maintaining our home, cultivating personal enrichment, and enjoying each other!

But I also desired to start my Personal Organizing business, so I could help others like you to not just strive, but achieve! It all starts with being organized by mastering your relationship with stuff. I met my wife, who went on to get a PhD, at UC San Diego. Together, we would not have been been able to ultimately earn our first million dollars in our thirties without first understanding and agreeing on what we really need. Then, prioritizing saving over everything else. Our savings investments have made an average yearly return of 12.5% over the past 8 years, without a commissioned financial advisor’s assistance.

It sounds simple, but it’s really not easy for most. However, the right coach can help you rise above the complications of your busy life by sharing the skills necessary for you to gain proficiency in all aspects of personal organization, so you too can achieve extraordinary goals. I’m sure you’ve heard of people leaving the rat race and moving somewhere where the cost of living is low so they can live mortgage-free. That doesn’t happen in Southern California, does it? Well, we paid off our 3300 square foot house in Southern California’s San Elijo Hills (where a house a few doors up just sold for $895K) before we both turned 38 – all with our own savings and it all started with me organizing our household. Really!

Does this mean we don’t have fun? On the contrary, our family embarks on at least two out-of-state vacations a year, including a trip across America (40 states) for the entire summer of 2014. I coach both my kids baseball/softball teams (over 20 teams so far). I practice music with my kids; my son on piano and daughter bass guitar. We enjoy cooking most of our family meals (which is the biggest reason why I recently lost 30 lbs, without a gym too!). I am also an accomplished home brewer who has won over 10 awards and built a bar with taps in my house – serious fun for entertaining friends.

You have so much potential. Your dreams and goals may not be the same as mine, but the means to accomplishing them are the same. Organizing is a skill that can be learned by anyone with the desire and willingness to try. You can do more with less with Weir Organized as your guide.
